Despite Prince of Tennis boasting one of the slashiest fandoms in all of anime, despite the subtext essentially becoming maintext with the magical power of Blatantly Sexual Character Duets, I have emerged from the fandom relatively unscathed, and championing what must be one of the most rabid OTP obsessions ever to exist (one without sex, I may add - okay, fine, that's a lie, but I don't ship them because of porn?). And thus, I give you a tribute to the wonderful subtlety (take that, animators) that is Tezuka Kunimitsu, Fuji Syuusuke, and their gorgeous relationship. (FST follows manga continuity, because I refuse to accept any fraction of the anime or its spawn as canon. That includes the gay tennis music. And the umbrella scene. See, all is fair in homoerotic tennis anime and holding hands.)

This is a relationship progression FST. I actually hadn't meant for it to be like that, but I started writing and realized it actually made more sense this way, so it turned out to be more of a chronicle of their relationship than anything else. ... Well, at least it's different.

Comments would be, er, really nice, seeing that FST's eat a buttload of bandwidth. Learned from past experience... though I have more bandwidth now than I did then, and I didn't run out then, and that FST was seven tracks longer and for a much larger fandom, so I suppose they're not necessary, but they make me really, really happy. And I don't fall out of fandom when I'm happy. :DD (Well I mean, it's no big loss if I fall out of fandom, but you know, comment, please?)

... After a rather messy internal debate, I decided to just post it here and not let this fic ever see the lights of LJ flist. Because, quite frankly, it sucks. Also, the tense changing is intentional. Notice the asterisks and how it swaps tenses after each asterisk. Some segments don't work in past tense, some don't work in present, and this is why. Therefore the train flows choppily, and therein lies the point.

It's choppy. And disjointed. And confused. And everything that I've come to believe makes up my OTP of all OTP's relationship. Except the sadistic and voyeuristic half, which is Off Limits because this fic is very, very G-rated.

As for how it relates to sunshine, that word was what made me write this fic. I use theme words as inspiration and not necessarily as a fanfic theme... the closest this thing relates to sunshine is the sunrise scene. SORRY. (I had considered making the first segment start with the letter S, the second with U, the third with N, the fourth with L, and so on, but that threw off the pace so I didn't.)

Some basic spoiler things: this will spoil up to the last episode of Anipuri (Tennis no Oujisama anime). However, as it is pretty damn obvious that Seigaku is going to nationals anyway, this should not be much of a spoiler. Hopefully. But do not read forward if you don't want to be spoiled even more (I'm telling you, this spoiler does nothing to ruin the series. xx)

One: Ryoma is participating in the US Open. Two: In a flashback, Fuji asks Tezuka (with the saddest expression I have ever seen, ever) to take him off the Seigaku regulars because he does not play tennis to win, Tezuka refuses, duh. Three: Tezuka and Fuji have finally had an actual match, Tezuka wins 7-6, Tezuka declares Fuji as his ultimate rival, lots of UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension) happens, Fuji finally gains the will to win because he wants to beat Tezuka, they share an umbrella, more UST happens, happy little hug, yay.
